At 59 years old Mitchell Lewis (June 26, 1880 - August 24, 1956) was the oldest Munchkin in the making of "The Wizard of Oz."

Specifically, filming of the beloved 1939 movie version of "The Wizard of Oz" ran from October 13, 1938 to March 16, 1939. The New York-born actor played the captain of the Winkies guarding the palace of the Wicked Witch of the West. He already had celebrated his birthday so he was 59 years old during production.

Author and Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 5, 1919] gave no information on the exact ages of his characters in The Wizard of Oz. In the case of Dorothy Gale's pet dog Toto, he didn't specify the breed. But the illustrations of William Wallace Denslow [May 5, 1856-May 27, 1915] gave the dog the appearance of a Cairn Terrier or of a Yorkshire. The dog that played Toto in the 1939 movie version of the book was Terry [1933-1944], a Cairn Terrier. Filming took place in 1938-1939. Depending upon when her birthday fell during those years, she was 4-6 years old.

When is Toto born in 'The Wizard of Oz'?

It is unknown as to when Toto is born in "The Wizard of Oz."Specifically, no information is given regarding ages or dates in either the original 1900 book edition or the beloved 1939 film version of "The Wizard of Oz." But the illustrations in the book tend to give the impression of Toto as a young, energetic dog. Terry (d. September 1, 1945), the Cairn Terrier who plays Dorothy Gale's pet dog in the movie, was born on November 17, 1933 and therefore five or six years old at the time of filming from late 1938 into early 1939.

In the Wizard of Oz why did Dorothy leave home?

Dorothy Gale was swept away with the strong winds of the cyclone, because she didn't make it down to the safety of the cellar. She had been outside with her pet dog Toto. She managed to get into Uncle Henry's and Aunt Em's old farm house before the cyclone hit. But she and Toto were upstairs and therefore carried off to the beautiful, enchanted, magical lands of Oz.

Is the line 'Don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain' in 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'?

No, the line "Don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain" is not in "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."Specifically, the statement is found in the beloved 1939 film version but not the original 1900 book edition of "The Wizard of Oz." It is made by the Wizard when Toto pulls aside the curtain hiding the humbug magician from his visitors. It is said in a last-ditch effort to keep Dorothy, Toto and their three friends from connecting a little old man with a frightening, disembodied voice.

What did The Wizard of Oz give Dorothy?

In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy Gale gives the Golden Cap to Glinda the Good Witch of the South, and the means of transportation to their new kingdoms to the Tin Woodman, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion. For the wearer of the Cap may have three wishes carried out by the Winged Monkeys. Dorothy lets Glinda use the wishes to the benefit of her three friends, even though she and her pet dog Toto need to get back home to Kansas. Having used up the wishes, Glinda then turns the Cap over to the Monkeys. Thereby, she and Glinda get the Tin Woodman, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion safely to their respective kingdoms of Winkieland, the Emerald City, and the Grand Old Forest. And thereby, they also give the Monkeys freedom from ever having to fetch for anyone ever again.
