Joe Jonas appeared in an original musical stage version of "The Velveteen Rabbit,"which premiered at the Forum Theater in Metuchen, New Jersey. Joe was approximately ten years old, and resided in the suburban town of Wyckoff. This production never played on Broadway, but subsequent casts toured throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York City. Because the actors performed under an Actors Equity Association (AEA) contract, "The Velveteen Rabbit" marked Joe's professional theatrical debut. Music and lyrics were by Paul Farinella, then resident composer at the Forum Theater, with book by Paul Wheelihan. An audio CD of the show was recorded which included some of the original cast, but not Joe. However, a rare video recording featuring Joe in the leading role of "Boy" does exist. Filmed live during a performance at the Forum Theater, the tape is believed to be in the possession of the composer for archive purposes.
