Elizabeth Short (aka 'The Black Dahlia') was an aspiring actress famed for her pale skin, jet-black hair and preference of dark lace clothing and flower accessories (hence the nickname). January 15th, 1947, in a vacant lot of LA, her bisected and mutilated corpse was found, cut-in-two and drained of blood with her mouth slashed into a Joker-like grin, by a stranger and child who mistakened the victim for a broken mannequin. She was beaten and tortured for several days before her death, rope burns on her wrists and ankles with multiple bruises on her body. Police believe she was killed in a bathtub then purposely dumped for discovery. The culprit's identity remains unknown and the case became Hollywood's most gruesome and celebrated murder scandals, prompting books and movies speculating who committed this horrific yet captivating tragedy.
