That is a deep question and there are entire websites devoted to it. Star Alliance even has a section where you can plan and book an around the world tour. It will also give you an approximate cost.

If you want to fly around the world with limited stops it can be done in about 10 days or possibly less. It also depends how many stops you want to make and how much touring and visiting to do when you get to a place. It also depends on how much time you want to spend in the Southern Hemisphere.

My daughter did it in 5 months with substantial (>3 weeks) stops in Australia and New Zealand and a 10 week stop in the USA.

If you were to cruise around the world with stops on EVERY continent including the Antarctic, they usually take around 120 days. Again, there are websites devoted to just such an undertaking.

So I am sorry. Not a straight answer - it all comes down to time and money and what an individual wants to accomplish.
