All prior clearance for medical, psychological tests and exhaustive federal, national & local background checks are paid for by ABC TV. Then all approved contestants' expenses to include meals, snacks & drinks for entire family including pets provision for 2 weeks, airfare, hotel, car rentals, gasoline, personal wardrobe & props, linens, towels, & toiletries, etc. necessary for the shoot, plus an hour of fame on national television are also paid for by the network. There is a minimum payment ceiling of $20,000 for a couple and the maximum depends on the last year's joint tax returns filed with IRS. A premiere/special of a season also gets a hefty bonus (like an all expense paid trip for the family to Tokyo, Paris, etc.) from the network after the show airs and the rating meets the top 5 of the best watched show of the season. All rights belong to ABC including re-runs of shows with Lifetime.
