A "pinochle" deck, on the other hand, has 48 cards: doubles of 9s, 10s, jacks, queens, kings, and aces, in each of the four suits. Jokers, which are not used in play, would add extra cards.

There should be AT LEAST four in you average deck - one for hearts, one for clubs, one for spades and one for diamonds. This rule applies to all cards but the Joker, of which there are ony two in an average deck.
