there was 5874 episodes aired ..there are few more episodes to date. The show was resurrected recently due to public demand(Oct 2009). There have been some controversial issues with the new episodes. This caused quite a lot of publicity for the show (not all good). I was in the audience 4 times and seen on screen each time, before it was cancelled. My face was even in a daily promo for the show a few years ago.
