It wasn't that long ago that people actually sang for their own enjoyment and even today, many people sing in the shower or at weddings, funerals and other gatherings. The concept of paying people to do what was formerly social interaction, is a relatively new cultural development. Regarding that specific song, you would need to count all of the people who have sang at funerals, weddings, anniversary parties and who knows where else. There is no way to know how many "artists" sang it, since the definition of artist is a little vague. "Everlasting Love" is a song first made famous by Love Affair, an English pop group. Robert Knight...his original 'Everlasting Love' was co-written by Buzz Cason & Mac Gayden in 1967. That original entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart at #83, the week of Sept. 30th. It peaked at #13, the weeks of Nov. 18th & 25th. Love Affair's version followed closely on Knight's heels and was an U.K. #1 smash hit in Jan. '68. The list below contains other notable covers. * Robert Knight (1967) #13 U.S. * The Love Affair (Dec. 1967) #1 U.S. * Carl Carlton (1974) #6 U.S. * Rex Smith & Rachel Sweet (1981) #32 U.S. * Sandra (1987) #5 Europe * U2 (1989) #11 U.S. Modern Rock * Worlds Apart (1994) #20 UK * Gloria Estefan (1995) #27 US, #19 UK * Jamie Cullum (2004) #20 UK
