I think the first was when she wore the mockingjay pin. But I am SURE that one of them was when Peeta and Katniss tried to eat the poison berries so there would be no victor for that years Hunger Games and they wouldn't have to kill each other. I haven't finished reading Mockingjay yet. A sixth grader has a lot to do. I'll tell you once i finsh

Katniss is able to hunt for her own food (making her self sufficient and independent of the Capitol as well as her family)

Katniss has emotionally detached herself from her mother- and has assumed the role of "Head of the House". She is independent because she is separate from her family, but at the same time tied-down by her need to protect and raise Prim

She is independent socially, she didn't have many/any friends in school. Few friends and or no social life is a very clear sign of being independent.

Her independence is most evident when working with the capitol. She always wants to do things her own way, regardless of what other people want or suggest. For example when they make the videos, or they go into combat zones.

Katniss is a very solitary, self assured person who is very independent and doesn't rely on anyone or anything. She makes sure that she will be ok. With or without the help of an outside party.

Her strong and independent survival skills come from her difficult past/childhood and helps her to think outside the box in order to survive. Her feisty personality also helps her to be willing to do anything in order to survive

Katniss is a very independent person. She feeds her family everyday with no help, and provides a steady income. She also is independent in the fact that she can think for herself and do whats best for her and her family. Katniss is dependent as well. She needs help from others like Gale, Peeta, Haymitch, and those in The Hob. For all of Katniss' independence she also needs people. She needs Prim to give her a sense of direction, and a purpose to keep on trying to live while in The Hunger Games. Not only does she need people, but she cherishes them as well. In the arena she cherishes Rue's presence when they team up, and when injured and sick in the cave Katniss unknowingly reveals to us how much she cherishes her mother's touch. Katniss is independent by her actions to support and protect her family, but its those people who give Katnissher purpose.
