If you mean "how does a reaping in The Hunger Games work?" all of the children between the ages of 12-18 from that district have to participate.
If you are 12 your name is automatically entered once. If you're 13 your name is entered twice automatically and so on and so forth.
You may enter tesserae if you're starving and you need some food. That'll put your name in the reaping more times.
Then, the names are drawn. The girls in one bowl, and the boys in another. The two names of whom are drawn go into the games, unless someone volunteer's.
Anyone can volunteer, as long as they are the same gender as the person that was originally reaped and are between the ages of 12 and 18.
Whoever was reaped/volunteered goes into the games!

Since District 12 has huge coal mines, most of the work is mining
The series is in first person view so you can't hear the thoughts of some of the other characters and you could have a more close relationship with the main character. Also, in the end Katniss writes a book about her life and I have the feeling that that book is the Hunger Games so for obvious reasons it would be first person.
Haymitch Abernathy is Katniss and Peeta's mentor in The Hunger Games. His job is to manage their sponsor gifts and work out their strategies in the arena. He is described as a "paunchy, middle aged man" and was the victor of the 50th hunger games. At first Katniss dislikes him because of his constant drunkenness and unwillingness to help the tributes, but eventually she begins to sympathize with him, especially as she realizes the consequences victors endure for their actions.Haymitch was Peeta and Katniss's adviser and trainer in a way. He is also the last person from district 12 to win the hunger games. He is also an alcoholic in the book.
It is a drawing and they choose one boy and girl in the ages of 12 to 18 and the choose them from these bowls. The chosen ones are the kids who will be in the hunger games. most are sad once chosen because they usually will die. Exepect district 2.
All of the tributes for each district participate in a brief training period. They work with a mentor & select the best approach for the games--ideally, one which plays to their strengths. Technically participants aren't supposed to do any long-term training, although certain more affluent districts violate this rule and prepare their children for the games. Those tributes are referred to as "careers" in the book.
