if you are reffering to jay gould of railroad business fame, he was at best astute,and at worst, an out-right crook. he manipilated people and finances, seemingly without a conscience, but it depends on which history is being read.

Jason "Jay" Gould made his money buying and repairing railroads. He would buy old, disorganized railroads and he would organized them and he made a lot of money just from doing that.
