SPOILER ALERT IF YOU DIDNT SEE THE SECOND SEASON FINALE OF THE PLL SHOW ON ABC FAMILY DONT READ-
Ian was trying to kill Spencer because she knew too much. They were at the church, Spencer was there looking for her sister, Melissa's, cell phone. Ian appeared. She distracted him by throwing a USB of 'home movies' he made of the girls when they were younger. She runs up the to the tower where the bell is, and he tries to throw her off. But before she manages to call Aria, but her phone drops. Aria, Hannah, and Emily hear what's going on when they answer the phone. They immediatly go to the church.
Meanwhile, Ian is holding Spencer over a ledge to drop her at least fifteen feet to her death.
"If you love my sister, you wont do this," Spencer pleads.
"I'm doing this because I love her," Ian said and pushes Spencer off, but she manages to hold Ian's arms.
Then, a strange person in all black comes and flips Ian to his death. Ther stranger leaves, and Spencer crawles back up.
Ian died of his broken neck of the ropes that were below.

P.S. Ian didn't die tho. He LIED. The police come and Ian gets away in time.

Ian was killed by Allison. Allison is not dead, her identical twin sister Countney is. Courtney was sent her away, but theyactuallysent Allison away not Courtney. So Courtney got to be Allison like she always wanted. Allison came back from an escape and killed her sister. At first mona was "A", but then later Allison becomes A after Mona is killed.
he is pushed by "A" at the chuch when he trys to kill Spencer by pushing her down..they show him strangled by the ropes (dead) but when the police come hes not their. some people think he either faked his death or "A" took his body to hide. Will find out in June!
He dies in the book, but in the show, in the season 2 finale, he is hung on the bell by someone who pushed him to save Ian from killing Spencer.
While he was trying to kill Spencer by pushing her off the Church, "A" pushed Ian off and he was hung dead by the strings of the bells.
