Most states it only requires a trailered trip down to you DMV, followed by a vin inspection, safety, and smog, if applicable. You have to remember the year of the vehicle will be the current year, thus heavily taxing your Federal smog requirements for equipment, and emissions, and, well yeah. Safety too. Way around that? Easy. Buy a fender, wheel, or pile of dust froma guy who has a vin tag, and title to anything, built prior to say, the mid 70's. The vehicle is then a salvage, but, retains its original year. And make and model, as well. To "home" build something that meets current safety requirements alone would push you to make a "race only" car out of it, eliminating the need for a title, but keeping it off the street, eliminating a good part of the fun. Long, and short. Go to your DMV, and do not go inside, but to the outside lab. Talk to that guy. Hell, buy him a steak, and a beer. He is going to be doing all of your "questionable" inspections, which require a small amount of opinion, HIS opinion, which may as well be something in your favor. He also knows all the laws that will be a factor in your situations, as well as the appropriate forms. The guy here in Nevada exposed a loophole here that took a $10,000 street car, down to a couple of grand, because it could not be licensed! He hated hot rods, too. But, in a state with legal prostitution, a man can be considered to "re-evaluate" his stance on a position, with a little persuation...........Chuck
