Harry Potter refused to join Lord Voldemort due to his loyalty. Voldemort was promising to bring his parents back if Harry gave him the philosopher's stone. But Harry refused.

Harry also stuck up for his friends, especially Neville Longbottom on a number of occasions.

Do you mean how do Ron and Hermione serve AS Harry's loyal retainers? Because if you do, well they were quite helpful in destroying Lord Voldemort in the last book, Ron destroyed the Locket Horcrux, and Hermione destroyed Hufflepuff's cup. They also aided Harry in FINDING all of the Horcruxes. And Neville Longbottom was helpful too; he killed Nagini, another Horcrux (Voldemort's pet snake).
