The grudge's husband killed her because he found the diary of when she was little, like how her mom would feed her demons. After that her husband was enraged and started going psycho [I have no idea why] and then he snapped her neck in front of their son. Then he killed his son and the cat. But the grudge was never "evil" until her husband killed her and that enraged her and hence she held a grudge and wanted people to suffer the way she did. You should really watch the movie before asking these things.. I've watched the whole series already.
