How did the enmity between rajam and mani resolved?

• Rajam was the new manace in mani's life.mani was the overlord of the class but rajam's tidy dress,well maners and wonderfull speaking ability impressed everyone even swaminathon.
• to teach a good lesson to rajam mani invited rajam for a fight.but rajam overpowerd mani as he brought an airgun with him and threatened mani to shoot. Mani was in a shamefull condition . Then rajam stretched out his hands for friendship and mani accepted it readily. Thus the long ill feeling turned to friendship.

R.K.Narayan in his brlliant amusing story "Rajam and Mani" has focused on the child psychology especially the students' mental analysis by representing a trifle strife between two students--one Mani and the other Rajam.Although this text(as I analyse) implies the colonial invasion, that Rajam represents ,among Indians represented through the other boys in the class.

Rajam joins the class at the mid of a session and on his first day he wins half the battle. He was the only boy who wore socks and shoes,tie and knickers,a fur cap and smartly enters the class and sat beside Mani and felt comfortable until Mani gives him a jab in the ribs which he returned promptly.This was the first knock at Mani's permanent domineering in the class.Rajam's appearance, manner,boldness,ability of speaking English,intelligence etc, impressed the whole class and it is evident that Mani's self-made position of over lordship is shattered.Not only that,Rajam proved to be a good student too to score seventy percent regularly.Rajam acquired the natural subservience from the class may it even be from his obedient follower Swaminathan that Mmani suspects.He became a growing power to repay Mani's jabbing,clouting,kicking.This sense of loosing power poisoned Mani's mental peace and he decides killing Rajam.

After the school is over they met in a secluded spot to divulge what is in their minds where Swaminathan has to act as the cord of communication and the meeting concludes with a battle tomorrow.

Near Nalappa's mango grove both Mani and Swami awaiting the duel ,Mani with a wooden club. Soldierly dressed Rajam appeared with an air gun and at the bewilderment of his rival fired a shot in the air.Mani was startled with his club down.Rajam boldly threatened his rival for the second shot if the latter is so keen upon a fight.This unequal fight is improper and should not last.Rajam also asked the reason of Mani's hostility to him.Mani fabricated the reason that Rajam called him a sneak which Rajam dismissed .Instead of the battle Rajam abruptly proposed friendship which Mani accepted promptly.

This sudden magnetism between two rivals not only surprised Swaminathan ,but he danced with joy and felt at" perfect peace with the world".The three friends charged with new friendship tasted the sweetness of the biscuits that Rajam offered, at he riverside in the late evening.River Sarayu was flowing as usual.
