Peeta had collected poisonous berries called Nightlock, not knowing they actually were poisonous. He left them next to their food. Foxface stole some of the berries and food and ate it, also unaware they were poisonous, and died.

Katniss hunts and Peeta finds food from plants. Peeta unknowingly gathers poisonous berries and brings them back to their resting spot and then goes out to find more food. Little did he know Foxface had been following him and Katniss for a while. Foxface decided to snatch the berries that Peeta gathered and run off undetected. But, since the berries were poisonous, she dies and the cannon sounds.
