spongebob started 3 years ago it started by a man called bob who was in the bath came up with the idea of a sponge called bob the other characters are named after his friends.The name bikini bottom came from obviously from a bikini.

∙ 14y agoIt came from the place where they tested out nuclear bombs. That place was called Bikini Bottom. The creatures around there were said to be demented because of the nuclear bombs. And SpongeBob and Patrick are odd creatures...
At least, I think that is what inspired the writers.

∙ 15y agoStephen Hillinburg (the creator), Is a marine biologist and was a art student, his first movie was 'Worm Holes', he then made a comic called 'Sponge Boy', Where Spongebob/Spongeboy Was a natural sea sponge, where as 'Spongebob' Is a kitchen sponge-etc. Hence 'Spongebob' was born.
