If the cliff falls onto people it can harm them, another way it can affect them is if their agricultural land was there and it fell off. This would mean that they would be loosing their livelihoods. If people own houses that are close to the cliff edge, the local council sometimes asks them to knock it down, as if it falls off it may injure people below on the beach. Some people have to knock down their own houses with their bare hands.

How do human effect cliff collapse?

Human activities such as mining, construction, and deforestation can weaken the stability of cliffs, making them more susceptible to collapse. Overloading the top of cliffs with heavy structures or vehicles can also contribute to cliff collapse. Additionally, improper drainage or irrigation practices can lead to erosion and weaken the soil, further increasing the risk of collapse.

What is cliff retreat?

A cliff retreat is a form of natural erosion. Rocks in the face of the cliff are broken down by wind and water (rain, waves, etc). The material in the cliff is loosened, and parts of the cliff face collapse. Eventually, an entire section of the cliff will fall into the sea, meaning that the cliff edge has retreated. The pace of cliff retreat is determined by the strength of the rocks in the cliff face, more than the cliff's height. It also most often occurs where the base of the cliff is continually being saturated by water, weakening the rock further.

How can cliff colapse be solved?

Cliff collapse prevention measures involve stabilization techniques such as installing rock bolts, mesh netting, and vegetation to secure the slope. Proper drainage systems and grading can also help manage water runoff and reduce erosion. Regular monitoring of the cliff's condition and addressing any signs of instability can help prevent collapse.

What is cliff recession?

Cliff recession refers to the gradual retreat or erosion of a cliff due to natural processes such as weathering, erosion, and coastal erosion. It can be caused by factors such as wave action, rainfall, freeze-thaw cycles, and human activities. Over time, the cliff face may become less stable, leading to its gradual collapse or retreat landward.
