There have been six ties in Oscars history:

  • In 1932 Wallace Beery and Fredric March both won Best Actor, for "The Champ" and "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," respectively.
  • In 1968 Katharine Hepburn and Barbra Streisand both won Best Actress, for "The Lion in Winter" and "Funny Girl," respectively.
  • There have been two ties in the Best Documentary category:
    • In 1949 - "A Chance to Live" and "So Much for So Little"
    • In 1986 - "Artie Shaw: Time Is All You've Got" and "Down and Out in America"
  • The 1994 nominees "Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life" and "Trevor" won the Best Short Film (Live Action) award.
  • Most recently, there was a tie for the 2012 Sound Editing Oscar. "Skyfall" and "Zero Dark Thirty" shared the award.
