Though not a "direct" remake, as it's a retelling of the story: Ben-Hur (1959) is considered the first remake to win the Oscar for Best Picture. Therefore, the first and only true remake Best Picture winner would be The Departed (2006).

Mutiny on the Bounty was the first remake to win Best Picture in 1935, but the original was not a Best Picture.

----------------------

Mutiny on the Bounty, 1935 with Clark Gable won outstanding picture, the equivelant of best picture at that time; Mutiny on the Bounty, 1962 with Marlon Brando did not win the Oscar, Lawrence of Arabia did.

The first film by this name was an Australian production of 1916. The 1935 version may or may not have been a remake of this Australian version but it is more likely that the Oscar winning version was based on one of the many books on the subject.

Cleopatra, 1910 with Madaline Roche, 1912 with Helen Gardner, 1917 with Theda Bara, 1934 with Claudette Colbert, 1963 with Elizabeth Taylor; the last two were nominated but did not win.

The Ten Commandments, 1923 with Theodore Roberts, 1956 with Charlton Heston was nominated but did not win.

Oscar-winning series

The Godfather, 1972 with Marlon Brando won best picture; The Godfather II, 1974 with Al Pacino won best picture; The Godfather III, with Al Pacino was nominated but did not win.

The Lord of the Rings, 1978 with Christopher Guard; Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring, 2001 with Sean Astin; The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers, 2002 with Sean Astin; Lord of the Rings, Return to Middle Earth, 2002 with Elijah Wood; The Lord of the Rings, Return of the King, 2003 with Sean Astin. The Felloship of the Ring and The Two Towers were nominated but did not win; The Return of the King won best picture.

Of the Rocky series, only the original 1976 was nominated and won a best picture

I'm not sure which of these is what you are looking for so please decide for yourself.
