Sum 41 is not an emo band. They are very much mainstream rock. Their lyrics are run of the mill 'unhappy with life' lyrics but they are not emo at all. They have too much of the pop/rock drums beats and choruses. That being said they are still awesome! I would have to disagree. Have you seen the original cover of their album "In too deep"? The picture is the words "Sum 41" written in something dark and dripping with a razor sitting at the side. That certainly appears to be emo.

No, Christina Grimmie is not emo she is far to happy and nice to be emo. She is more so wears a pop punk kinda style which to me is very cute.
There is no such thing as "emo bands". there is only "emo-hardcore".
Emo music emerged in the mid-1980s as a subgenre of punk rock. Bands like Rites of Spring and Embrace are often credited with pioneering the emo sound. The term "emo" itself is believed to derive from the word "emotional."
emo
Older emo bands were more of an underground sort of sound. Bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Mineral, The Promise Ring and Texas Is The Reason were considered emo bands. Bands that are considered emo now are Alesansa and Silverstein.
Whatever they want
Emo was A Genre before it was a Label And/Or A way of life, when A Band is called Emo, It would only be because of the style of their Music. Some Bands may Cut, but that's just up to them. Examples of "Emo" Bands; Hawthorne Heights, Fugazi, My Chemical Romance, Thursday, Automatic LoveLetter, Mest. Etc.. Not all of these bands neccessarily Cut, but their Music is Emo, As a Genre :P. =)
Yes, screamo is a sub-genre of emo (which itself is a sub-genre of punk).
Escape the fate: smooth
The history of punk is longer than emo. Punk started in the 1970's The Ramones which influenced other bands like The Clash The Sex Pistols and The Casualites to name a few popular ones. Most emo bands like My Chemical Romance and From First to last were influenced by bands like The Misfits other goth, heavy metal bands and punk.
No, death metal is not for emo's such bands as "Hawthorne Heights" and "Madina Lake" are emo bands death metal is more advanced and for more hardcore people and FYI everyone Joe Gardner has an egg dick. It's pretty simple. Emo music wants to kill itself, death metal wants to kill other people (the more, and the more brutally, the better).
It is said than most if not all heavy metal music (avenged sevenfold, evanescence, slipknot) is emo, especially screamo. But please check the definition of emo people!!!!
my chemical romance ( they are not they just have been labeled that )
