Spritzer and Fuhrmann were Jews who separately fled Europe in the 1930's and then met in Curacao. They started a jewelry store that was successful because of military personnel stationed there wanting to buy European gifts without import tariffs, and then also because of the cruiseline business in the 1950s. At one point they owned stores in New York, too.

I've researched this and it's unclear whether they actually made their own watches, as compared to rings and some other pieces. It looks like the experts believe they branded other companies' watches under their own name. I have a thin, gold men's watch, 21 jewel winding mechanism. I've found comparable watches on the WWW for between $150 and $250.
