No one knows for sure. In Stephanie's books - twilight - she does talk about them but no one knows if they are really real. It might seem wonderful to be able to live forever, but that's not a life. In twilight Bella wants to be one, just to be with Edward forever, I think Edward made a good choice on wait until that moment. But being a cold one does have it's ups and it's down - your frozen, your can only drink brood, you would be a monster, and people are not suppose to live forever. I'm not saying it's bad. But it's not a life.
