Look at the makeup of audience. Twice as many women, at least. Men aren't as interested in game shows as housewives. Producers understand this truth.

No Pernell Roberts was no black, he was American, White. Born and raised in GA. But he did a lot of work for civil rights and sticking up and voicing his opinions on minorities and equal jobs, and equal pay. Spoke out about segregation as well.

American Idol pays for your plane ticket to Hollywood, your hotel, food, your not stuck with the bill, they basically pay for everything.

Why do you feel that they pay for travel to Hollywood for anyone
The contestants who appear on America's Got Talent have their trip to Las Vegas paid for by the show. They also receive living expenses, food allowances and clothing.
As far as I know, David Archuleta made no money on American Idol. I do not even think the winner gets money for winning. The winner gets a guaranteed record contract. That contract might pay some advance money, but that is after Idol ends. As contestants, I believe they received room and board (a place to sleep and food) and the clothing they wore on the show. They may have received a small amount from sales of their performances and studio versions on iTunes, but I think 19E (who runs Idol) probably reaped the most profits from that. After Idol is over, the highest earning Idols can earn from $100,000 to $6,000,000 depending on their album and single sales and the number and size of concerts they do. David Archuleta made 1.3 million dollars in his first year after Idol. Cook made 2 million but that included his sponsorship of Sketchers shoes.
In most cases, no. Contestants have to pay their expenses themselves, which can include airfare and hotel expenses.
No, The X Factor pay for it.
Yes, The X Factor pay for the expenses, not the contestants.
No, because the contestants do not pay for an opportunity to play.
No, the contestants come to LA with their own money.
Jeopardy! does not cover contestants' expenses. All contestants have to pay their own way to Los Angeles, which includes lodging and meals. Everyone on the show wins some money, though. Third place gets $1000, second place gets $2000 and the winner keeps what he makes.
