Leather Face was a fictional character from the movie "A Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and was not a real person. In the original movie, he is in the very last shot, throwing his chainsaw around in a manic frenzy, and is not killed. He was however, based on a real person, in part, who was a famous serial killer; Ed Gein, who is dead.

Leatherface is not a real person. He is a fictional character from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Movies. Although Tobe Hooper got the idea for Leatherface from the real life serial killer Ed Gein, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies could not be more different from the real story of Ed Gein. Ed Gein was real, but Leatherface and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are not.

Leatherface was not a real person. He evolved from stories of Jeffery Dahmer and Ted Bundy and mostly Ed Gein.

UPDATE: Never was Jeffrey Dahmer an influence as he was only a little boy when the character of Leatherface was created. In the 1970's when Texas Chainsaw Massaacre was made Jeffrey Dahmer would have been barely born yet. So no influence at all.

He was almost totally influenced by Ed Gein. Who was never in his life in Texas. He lived his whole life in Plainsfield, Wisconson.

The character Leatherface was inspired by the notorious serial killer Ed Gein, but Leatherface himself was not actually real.

_____

Note: Ed Gein lived in Wisconsin, not Texas.
