Under The Bridge: Anthony Kiedis wrote this song while in a depression. His two band mates Frusciante and Flea were always hanging out together and leaving him out all of the time, effectively, Anthony's best friends were ignoring him as a best friend and only communicating with him as a band member. Anthony Kiedis was depressed and was writing about his sadness and about how he had somewhat of a connection with Los Angeles, singing that it was his only friend. He also sang about how his ex-girlfriend was the most amazing girl and he threw all he had away for drugs and that he was now paying for it. Another thing he talked about was that the more depressed he got the more memories came back of the drug use but he knew his life in sobriety was way better than the time it was back during his addiction.

The name "Under The Bridge" directly links to the place he would go to to receive drugs such as speedballs. He would get the drugs from a gang by saying one of the gang member's sister was his fiancée. He said that this was on of the saddest times of his life because it was a time where he would stoop to such a low level to get a high. For this reason Kiedis has refused to state the location of the Bridge itself.
