The intention is: data in data warehouse is non updatable

But there exist some exceptions of the non-update rule which may be allowed by data warehouse organisation. Such cases may be:

- error correction of wrong data

- enhancement of missing data

- restructuring (parts of) data warehouse data(base) design

- ...

One leading idea beyond data warehousing resp. one purpose of data warehousing is to enable controller and other users to observe resp. monitor time variant data (e.g. revenue of a product during the last 24 months). It depends on the quality standards whether the above listed exceptions are allowed or not.

A data warehouse is a non-updatable, time-variant, integrated, and subject-oriented collection of data used to support decision-making management processes and business intelligence. The data warehouse is more than just a collection of an organization's operational databases.

What is the difference between data warehouse testing and conventional testing?

ETL stands for Extract-Transform-Load and it is a process of how data is loaded from the source system to the data warehouse. Data is extracted from an OLTP database, transformed to match the data warehouse schema and loaded into the data warehouse database. Many data warehouses also incorporate data from non-OLTP systems such as text files, legacy systems and spreadsheets. Conventional testing is a sort of testing in which the test engineers will check the developed application or its related parts are working accordingly to the expectations of customer or not, from coding phase of SDLC to the end

What are benefits of data warehouse?

One of the biggest benefits is that you can archive your data to a data warehouse. This can keep your main "production" database smaller which can provide some performance benefits. What is distributed data warehouse?

A distributed data warehouse is a type of data warehouse architecture where data is distributed across multiple servers or nodes in a network. This allows for improved scalability, performance, and fault tolerance compared to a centralized data warehouse. Distributed data warehouses can handle large volumes of data more efficiently by spreading the workload across multiple nodes.
