Catherine Carver was born Catherine White in the village of Sturton-le-Steeple, Nottinghamshire, England. She married her first husband, George Leggatt, also from Sturton-le-Steeple. In 1584 they had a child named Marie Leggatt who married John Tilley in about 1605 in Engor, Holland. I do not know whether this is the same John Tilley who sailed on the Mayflower, but if it is he had married again. After 1609 Catherine Leggatt married John Carver when he joined the Separatist church. John Carver's first wife died in Leiden while they were members of the Walloon church there.
