no he was not evil, the evil-ness is all an act, but he did kill his clan but only because he was forced to .

No. Their flaw is they suffer from a 'curse of hatred'. The second hokage revealed that in fact the Uchiha's love is the strongest amongst the clans, though secretive. But when this love is lost, the hole it leaves is filled with an even stronger hatred. This hatred causes their Sharingan to develop, evolving to a new form also when the owner suffers an extreme sense of grief or loss.

It's no surprise that a combination of bitterness, and increased levels of power, has created various villains from the Uchiha, including Madara, Obito and Sasuke. However there are still many innocent members of the clan who are blamed unjustly.

-he's kinda both. he's the bad guy because he's part of the akatsuki (until he died) and he killed almost all his clan. and he told sasuke all that bad stuff about himself. but he really said that because he wanted sasuke to get stronger. and itachi didnt want sasuke to know the truth about why he killed his clan. because if sasuke knew the truth, he'd want to destroy the leaf village. itachi wouldve killed sasuke with the rest of the uchihas but he loved him too much to kill him. when itachi was about to die he walked up to sasuke and touched his forehead like he used to do and his last words were ''sorry sasuke. this is it''. and he died with a smile on his face. he wanted sasuke to come back to konoha as a hero. and itachi wouldn't take sasukes eyes anyway. itachi gave sasuke his ameratsu and it went off every time sasuke looked at madara's sharingan. he did that so sasuke wouldn't find out the truth. but sasuke does and joins the akatsuki.
