Where the differ is that Haymitch is pragmatic to a fault, whereas Katniss maintains an idealistic approach to her challenges. Haymitch has been "broken" by his association with the Games, and thus willingly participates in the Capitol's schemes as a practical matter, while Katniss tries to maintain her rebellious attitude.
Yet, at the end of the third book, Katniss begins to approach the practical apathy of Haymitch.

there's no reaction. there's no big climax of who katniss chooses, which I think the book really missed on, it just says that gale leaves to go to district 2 but katniss wouldve chosen peeta anyway because katniss said her and gale were too much alike and she didn't need someone else with fire in them, she needed someone like peeta. also, it was a bomb gale made that killed her sister prim and even though he wasn't directly involved in the bombing , katniss just could t look at him the same way. and plus, peetas way sweeter.

How are the Hunger Games book alike to the Hunger Games movie?
The movie has a lot of the same characters, but Madge, the daughter of the mayor who gave Katniss the mockingjay pin in the book is not in it, Peeta's father is not mentioned in the movie nor does he come and give Katniss cookies, but in the book he does, and the redheaded Avox is not in the movie but is in the book. Only three characters aren't mentioned in the movie. There aren't really differences in the characters in the movie. The casting of Katniss Everdeen as Jennifer Lawrence was perfect! Jennifer Lawrence played Katniss better than anyone else would! Josh Hutcherson also was really good as Peeta Mellark! Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne was a good match also. Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket was the perfect match because she is so funny! Woody Harrelson as Haymitch was also good, but I wish he was a little more humorous, but overall I think he was great!
