Our collection of Fred Sabater original oil paintingswere purchased directly from the artist in 1990 in San Diego, California. At that time we were novice art collectors and had no background info about Fred Sabater. My wife and I liked the paintings, so we just bought them. Each original painting is framed and signed by the artist. One of our paintings was signed by Fred in our presense at our home in San Diego. Since 1990, this small collection has remained in our home, inviting pleasurable comments from friends and family.

In 2006, we were encouraged by an artist friend of ours to find out more about our Fred Sabater art collection. Shortly thereafter, we began an internet search which revealed bits and pieces about the artist. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that Fred Sabater Jr. was an internationally known artist appreciated by many people.

NOTE:In October 2007, a wonderful original oil painting "NAG SU SULSI", (not in our collection) by Filipino artist, Fred Sabater Jr., was presented at auction on eBay for $310,000.

Born in the 1920's, international artist Alfredo Tan Sabater Jr. (Fred Sabater) truly possesses the soul of an artist by capturing the emotions of life on canvas. He started painting at the age of 7 but really didn't work seriously until his teenage life. During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, Fred served in the army resulting in a heightened idealistic respect for life that has fervently influenced his style. Influenced also by his former mentor, the late Fernando Amorsolo under which he apprenticed, are very much evident in his works. Recognized as one of the first Filipino abstractionists of his time and a magnificent portrait artist, an abstraction in oil (4'x6') titled "The Genesis of the Philippine Revolution" sold for $75,000, which is in the Consulate Gen. Office in L.A., CA.. Some of his works include "Dragon Child" 30x40 $32,000, "The Warrior" 31x52 $26,000, "Tineka Shallon…the Feeding" 24x36 $18,000, and many others. His exhibitions have spanned worldwide. Some of the proud owners of Fred Sabater's works include Mrs. Imelda, President and First lady Fidel Ramos, Rear Adm. Herman Kossler, NFL player Stanley Richards, and Magic Johnson purchased one of Sabater's paintings for $2,000,000.00.

I was born in the Philippines back in the early 1960s, and lived with my family there until 1966 when we returned to the United States. While living in Manila, my parents became acquainted with Mr. Sabater and bought many of his paintings, sometimes as soon as the canvases were dry. His style back then was vastly different than what I've seen in online galleries to date-now more literal, less abstract. His use of color and pallet-knife techniques are unequalled.

The paintings my parents acquired during those years are absolutely stunning, worthy of any serious collector's attention and are of museum-quality simply because his style is unlike anything I've seen. Incredible. Especially his first rendering of "Christ being taken down off the cross". We consider ourselves fortunate to possess such amazing works of art from a man whose talent is so unique.
