James T. Russell had a huge heart attack and died on the 2nd of July 1973. Don't think so. If we're talking James T. Russell, inventor of compact disc, I worked for him in 1996 and saw him again in 2001. He seemed remarkably animated for someone who died in '73.

James T Russel was born in Bremerton, Washington, in 1931. He is a physicist and inventor who initiated many types of experimental instrumentation. His work lead to the development of the videodisk, CD, and DVD. He also invented an optical memory system and electron beam welder. Russel was inspired in 1965 to develop a method for storing and playing music (the CD) out of disappointment in the way his vinyl records wore out.
