landline phones can only be used near their holder, or in the house or place they are connected to, but mobile phones can be used almost anywhere providing you have enough credit (money to use on phone) to make calls and send texts. only mobile phones can send texts and images. mobile phones also need to be charged regularly to keep the battery power filled up. when the battery power runs out, the phone instantly turns itself off. there is a gauge in the corner of the screen that tels you how mucch battery power is left. the more bars of power, the better.

A landline phone is connected to the phone system by a wire connection.

Although the handset may be cordless, the connection to the phone system is still by a base unit, connected by wires to the outside world.

The number attributed to that phone only connects to that property by a wire.

A moble phone uses two way radio (full duplex) to connect to a local radio mast. When you move, the phone automatically re-connects to the next nearest mast. The phone connection via these 'Cells' is passed to the wired phone system.

When your mobile number is dialled by someone, a central computer passes the call to the cellular mast nearest to you. Even when you are not making a call the cell pone keeps in touch, by short pulses of data, so that the system knows where to find you and pass a call to you.
