Pilot lot is more like prototype products manufactured and inspected and validated.
If the output is a bunch of small products like caps, tooth brushes. Pilot lot is the first batch of caps or brushes made and validated. It will be inspected for all characteristics that the customer need and will be shipped with first consignment to the customer.
Pilot lot is also known as first article/ first batch. Customer might also insist to make a pilot lot inspection to the supplier when there is a change in drawing/specification in the order.
