That really depends on the damages of the music player. If it is still recognized when you plug it into your computer, it is likely that you can recover the music. But if it is not recognized, you probably won't be able to recover it on your own.

Well the ematic can store twice as many songs, but Philips is a more well-known brand. There are almost certainly appearance differences. I, personally, have an IITronics 8gb digital mp3 player, which comes with DECENT headphones and has huge space. Also, it was fairly cheap for the size. Go for the ematic if you have lots of music, or even my IITronics if you have loads and loads and loads.
