A topology (in ICT) consists of servers and workplaces or terminals or both. The main difference between both is that a workplace can work on its own without any help from the server. Many schools and buildings have workplaces in their LANs (Local Area Networks). Terminals can not work without the server, especially the file server as the file server contains all the data they need. ATMs are an example of a terminal.
