If you wrap your hand around your wrist and your thumb overlaps your small finger you have one significant sign of marfan syndrome, a genetic connective tissue disorder. Other signs are scoliosis or kyphosis, a tall thin lanky body, excessively long limbs, doublejointedness, and eye problems and many more. 1 in 5000 people has it.

Although there are many annoying problems, some people do not develop enough of them to alert their doctor that they have the problem. The most serious problem is aortic weaknesses that can lead to aortic dissection or rupture which requires emergency surgery if you survive or you may just die suddenly. For some people, their first obvious symptom is death. Careful control of blood pressure and monitoring cardiovascular condition can avoid this.
