A good nature for Gyarados is one that lowers it's low Special Attack stat while raising it's Attack or Speed stats to improve it's attacking power. Recommended natures are Adamant for raising Attack and Jolly for raising Speed. Impish for Defense and Careful for Special Defense are recommended if you want your Gyarados to be able to take more damage instead of dealing it.

Simply because that's the best nature for gyarados. Raises it's att and lowers it's special attack. Because gyarados has very good attack stats and low special attack stats anyways it's best to raise what he's good at. Best way to train a gyarados is to give it max attack/speed and a lil bit hp EVs. In other words adamant nature is the best as it boosts attack yet doesn't lower speed/hp gain ;)

Gyarados
Gyarados is probably the best, it is evolved magicarp.
From bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net:Gyarados's name may be derived from a combination of 虐殺 gyakusatsu massacre/slaughter, and 逆境 gyakkyō, hardship/adversity. Both words relate to the creature's violent nature and the hardship it experienced before evolving. The end of Gyarados' name, ドス dosu, is a Japanese onomatopoeic word representing the piercing of flesh, once again owing to Gyarados' violent nature. Alternatively, the dos may just indicate that it's the second in its evolutionary line.
