There was a higher demand for laborers and a higher amount of jobs in colonial America than in Europe and more land for a much cheaper price. However, since the overwhelming amount of immigrants to America were poor, they often could not afford to sail to America unless they became indentured servants, which put many deep into debt and tied them to their masters for years before they could begin to benefit themselves. Also, different religions dominated various regions, such as the Puritans in Massachusetts (though by this time, their presence in government was loosening). For example, Catholics were not welcome in most areas of colonial America, save Rhode Island or Pennsylvania, or Maryland which was set aside specifically as a safe haven for Catholic immigrants. There was still also social hierarchy present. Commoners could be taken advantage of to benefit the government or the privileged class as illustrated in Bacon's Rebellion, the first instance recorded where the common class rose against the royal governor, Berkeley, and sought to gain equal significance.
There was a lot of economic opportunity in colonial America. This is because nothing was settled and the land needed builders, farmers, and many other workers.
Britain had something to do with mercantilism, and they used the colonists to benefit themselves.
The Stamp Act imposed a tax on every piece of printed paper colonists used. Colonists viewed the Act as an attempt to make money off the colonists. They believed it set a precedent and resisted it.
shortage of goods, prices of beef and wheat doubled, the colonists face an inflation, and there was a falling value of colonial money
For a variety of reasons, money was almost always in short supply during the early colonial period. The lack of coins and currency forced the colonists to barter. The English leaders felt that colonial exports, such as animal skins, dried fish, and tobacco, should be paid for in English goods. Colonial exports would be accepted in return for an equal value of such goods as fabrics, window panes, pewter dishes, and mirrors. This barter arrangement - an exchange of goods or services without using money - seemed ideal to the British but was increasingly unpopular with the colonists, who preferred coin for their exports to gain more independence over their buying power.
because it was in favor of the British Mercantilism was the economic philosophy underlying early European colonial policy. The object of mercantilism was to increase the wealth of the Mother Country (England) in gold and silver.
