According to some sources, but not all, Gasoline averaged around .15 cents per gallon in 1927. Adjusted for inflation that equates to around $1.75 in 2006.

It's recorded that in 1945 a gallon of gas cost a whole 21 cents a gallon. Bread was only 9 cents a loaf.
