Being a vampire not all about the fantasy have needing to be barbaric savage creatures, its about needing blood. What does blood have to do with being vampires? That is their food. Now a real vampire doesn't just eat blood cuz you need more than blood to survive. The blood kind of serves as making them less weak and making them more aware. Awareness causes increased agility, hearing, and sight but by just a bit. I could go on and on and on about being a vampire but I would get off course from answering the question...so...
Basically in all being a vampire is just something that happens to you cuz its not a disease or anything. It just relieves stress and makes you more aware. To be vampiric is to be "ruthless" in the dictionary but a more modern version that should be added is "keen to solving problems of own senses, pain, and emotion". That fits much better.
