MUZAK is a company that distributes background music in all types of businesses.

MUZAK possibly uses a protected media format for closed circuit broadcasts and also uses SCA subcarriers on your local FM station and also small satellite dishes with special channels. With the availability of HD Radio and satellite radio the sound quality of music will sound better than SCA AM quality radio broadcasts.

The formats for MUZAK is Soft Rock and Smooth R&B and another station for Easy Listening and Smooth Jazz. Also some businesses play classical, new age, ethnic

foreign music programming such as Mexican, Italian, and Chinese music. The file format is likely protected WMA with DRM so thieves cannot steal the music from the servers and is sent securely via the internet to the place of business on its servers to the computer to the background music systems. Some services use mp3 format most of the time. Most of it is distributed live via satellite, cable, microwave link or FM. Soon HD Radio will have a service for Muzak in the future on compressed HD3 and 4 channels but will be secure for business to business.
