The previous version of Documax used a Kodak data retrieval program that was not designed for use with Windows 2000 or Windows XP. It is possible to install and use this program on Windows 2000 and XP, but it requires special handling to do so. Follow the steps below for Windows 2000 and XP installations:

  1. Make sure that there is an Autoexec.bat file in the C: drive and that it is not hidden or read-only. If this file does not exist, create one using Notepad. There does not have to be anything in the file, but the installation needs to be able to write to this file to complete. (Note: this also means that you must have user rights to write to this file. It is suggested that the installation be completed by someone with full Administrative rights on the PC.)
  1. Insert the CD, and start the installation program. During the installation, you will be asked whether to perform a Minimum or Maximum installation. Choose Maximum. For all other prompts, choose the default. At the end of the installation, you will be asked to reboot your PC. You do not need to do so.
  1. Using Windows Explorer, go to C:\FULTEMP. Right-click on the setwcd.bat file, and choose 'Edit'. At the end of this file, remove the line that says 'EXIT'. There may also be an end character in the file (it will usually look like a block). This character can also be deleted. Save this file and close it.
  1. Create a new text file in the C:\FULTEMP directory. This file should be named documax.bat. The file should have 2 lines in it, as follows:

Call setwcd.bat

retrieve.exe

The Documax CD can be run by double-clicking on documax.bat, but for convenience, see below.

  1. Right-click the documax.bat file that you created, and choose 'Copy'. Then right-click on an empty spot on your Desktop and choose 'Paste Shortcut'. Documax can be run directly from this shortcut.
