Most probably your fanbelt. You should have your car serviced as it could be a number of serious problems aswell or just replace the fanbelt and see if it works.

I am no expert, but I believe that this is usually caused by the fan belt slipping.
The friction between the road and the tires creates and screeching sound.
Remove and bring to an auto parts store that can check it for drag and load
A slipping drive belt is one possibility.
