Not normally unless there were other problems. The Purge Solenoid purges(removes and blends) excess gasoline fumes back into the fuel system. If the purge valve is faulty, you will get a Service Engine Light on all of the time.
Loss of pick up can be caused by many other factors. Gas line or fuel filter clogged, bad fuel pressure regulator, bad ERG valve, loss of vacuum, etc. The car needs to be scanned with a proper scan computer to get the codes that direct a mechanic to possible causes.

Disconnect the EVAP canister purge solenoid electrical connector Remove the EVAP canister purge solenoid bolt Remove the EVAP canister purge solenoid and insulator Reinstall in reverse order....... toque spec is 91 inch lbs
Its a Canister Purge Control Solenoid
The purge valve on the Malibu is located on top of the charcoal canister that is mounted on the side of, or in close relation to the fuel tank. Usually on the same side as the filler neck. This purge valve is not to be confused with the purge valve solenoid which is located on the intake manifold. If for some reason you can not find the purge valve/canister just locate the solenoid on the intake manifold (which will have an electrical plug and one vaccum line attached to it.) and trace the vaccum line under the car to the canister. As stated above...it is there that you will find the canister purge valve.
my 1996,2.2 cavalier has the canister behind the right headlite. It has to be removed by removing the inner right fender.
P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow A code P0441 could mean one or more of the following has happened: * Bad vacuum switch * Broken or damaged EVAP line or canister * Open in PCM purge command circuit * Open or short in Voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid * Faulty purge solenoid * Restriction in EVAP solenoid, line or canister * Corrosion or resistance in purge connector * Bad PCM
It means you have an Evap purge control leak in the EVAP system. Basically when you have gasoline in a car there are a lot of excess fumes, these fumes are routed through the EVAP system of the car, through a charcoal canister, and returned back to your gas tank as liquid fuel. A leaking charcoal canister, Evap Purge solenoid, PCV lines or PCV elbows can cause this. Also a leaking gas cap can cause this. I would recommend replacing the gas cap first. if that does not do it, check all the connections to the EVAP canister *located in the engine by the firewall*. If there are any leaks, change the elbows or lines. IF the problem still exists you most likely need a new charcoal canister or Canister purge valve solenoid.
It must be on the charcoal canister. the charcoal canister should be located in the back of the car near the fuel tank.
