Sure. But when putting said "trunk soundproofing" to a real world test, just make sure the person is bound tightly, otherwise egg crate foam can be pulled off easily. Then not only do you have ruined soundproofing, you have the embarrassing situation of having to gag your hostage the old fashioned way.

I suggest keeping a container of some sort (i.e. plastic crate) in the trunk that contains emergency items. I suggest keeping another container in the trunk that contains car cleaning and/or maintenance items. In the cabin itself, keep the essentials (umbrella, car manuals, notepad and pen, etc.) in the glove compartment. Keep your sunglasses and CD's in one of the cubbies by the driver's seat.

That's a good question. My 2008 Kia Spectra caught on fire this afternoon. We were leaving a restaurant and noticed that we couldn't see inside my car. We open the doors and my car is completely engulfed in smoke. I openned the trunk to find a fire inside. The most damage occurred to some foam that held the jack and the trunk liner. It almost seems like the foam was the start of the fire because it was completely melted. I have no idea what could of started the fire.
