No it won't.Inside the coil are a lot of copper wires all insulated from each other.
If this insulation fails and the wires inside touch...the coil stops working.
The coil can be detached and tested using a ohmmeter. The leads are placed on the outside prongs of the coil, and the resistance is tested. The coil should show a resistance somewhere between 0.75 and 0.85 ohms.
A defective coil can cause an engine to run erratically or not start at all. Coils can weaken, causing insufficient spark. A coil can also breakdown once it heats up then work when it gets cooled down.
What year is it? it could be the coil, the coil will break down when it gets hot. And then be Ok after it cools off.
one of your coil housing breaking down or spark plug want cleaning or changeing
replace your coil pack it is shorting out this is common on ford it runs fine while engine is cool but when engine gets hot coil gets hot and shuts down eng when coil is cool like overnight it starts fine until it gets warm again.
This is not true. If it gets too hot, it will shut down, but will not break unless you keep pushing the button or something to break it.
Usually when an engine overheats the distributor is the least of your worries. An overheated engine could potentially melt itself into a 300 pound chunk of scrap metal if it gets hot enough.
Do not shut the engine off. Simply slip the transmission into neutral and coast over to the break down lane and stop when it is safe to do so, then shut the engine off.
Could be a bad coil breaking down when it gets hot This is a coil problem if I have ever seen one. Simple and inexpensive fix, go for it.
You either have a cracked head gasket or your engine is not running hot enough on many short trips. Either way, it's a problem and it needs to be looked at. The goo also gets down into your engine and will eventually cause it to break down. Change your oil often to keep it from building up in the engine.
More than likely the coil is breaking down and needs to be replaced. The other things that could cause this is that there may be debris under the engine cover that is keeping the cooling fins from blowing air accross the cylinder head. This will make the engine get hotter than normal and shut it down. If you remove the metal engine cover it should be obvious if this is the problem.
It was a coil pack.
the engine gets hotter and that makes the temperature rise and could sometimes break down the car if it is to high
