Would a defective crank position sensor cause a 1997 Dodge Caravan not to start?

It is possible, but not guaranteed in every case. The crank position sensor is a little bit redundant, since there are other sensors available to the engine's control module, which could give it essentially the same data required for the engine to start and run. Regardless, if the crank position sensor is found to be defective, it should be replaced.

On a 94 3000gt If your o2 sensor is faulty will it not start entirely or will it be dead in the water?

A defective O2 sensor will not prevent the engine from starting. The engine will start and run albeit not as it should.

A throttle position sensor might keep the engine from starting. Any number of things can cause a vehicle not to start. The starter and the gas line sensors are also a possible culprit.

Why would a 2001 pontiac grand am turn over but not start?

Check the 2001 Grand Ams crank shaft position sensor first. If the sensor is bad then the engine will not get fire or start.

What does a crank shaft sensor do?

AnswerIt reads the position and/or speed of an engine as it is rotating. When crankshaft is turning, the sensor will provide a signal to the PCM. The PCM will then allow the engine to start by providing spark and fuel.

What does the blinking red light on a Honda CRX ECU signify?

the lights flash in sequence to show dtc's (diagnostic trouble codes)count the #of flashes and that is the # of the codefor example if u r having a problem w/fuel inj. or main relayu should get 16 flashes then about a 3 sec pause then the code willrepeat unless there is more than one code so watch closelyevery 3 sec pause indicates the start of next codeTo find out what each code means, check this table:1) Primary oxygen sensor- Defective circuit or unplugged/ Defective sensor2) Oxygen sensor "B" - Defective circiut or unplugged/ Defective sensor3) MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) Sensor - Defective circuit or unplugged/ Sensor4) CKP (Crankshaft Position Sensor) - Defective circuit or unplugged/ Defective sensor5) MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor -Mechanical problem/ Disconnected piping6) ECT ( Engine Coolant Temperature) Sensor- Defective circuit or unplugged/ Sensor7) TP (Throttle Position) Sensor -Defective circuit or unplugged/ Defective sensor8) TDC (Top Dead Centre) Sensor -Defective circuit or unplugged/ Defective sensor9) CYP (Cylinder) - Defective circuit or unplugged/ Defective sensor10) IAT (Intake Air Temperature)sensor- Defective circuit or unplugged/Defective sensor12) EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) -Defective circuit or unplugged/ Defective sensor13) Atmospheric Pressure Sensor - Defective circuit or unplugged/ Defective sensor14) IAC (Intake Air Control) Valve- Defective circuit or unplugged / Defective sensor15) Ignition Output Signal - Missing or defective ignition output signal16) Fuel Injector System - Defective circuit or unplugged/ Defective fuel injector17) VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) - Defective circuit or unplugged/ Defective sensor19) Automatic transmission lockup control Solenoid Valve- Defective circuit or unplugged/ Defective solenoid.
