That depends on the make , model, and engine. That depends on the make , model, and engine.
sometimes.
A catalytic converter that has had a melt down and is restricting the exhaust from passing through will cause the engine to lose power on acceleration and on top end. If the cat is damaged bad enough the engine won't run much over an idle and may set a misfire code. You can test for that condition by installing a vacuum gauge to a direct intake manifold vacuum source. The vacuum will decrease as engine speed increases if the cat is plugged.Give us the year, make, model and engine info for more help.
No
There are FOUR What engine LT1? There should be one in each pipe before the cats and one after each on the V8! The two upstream moniter the engine and the downstreams moniter the efficiency of the catalytic coverter They MUST be replaced in pairs or the computer will say there is still a problem Oh yeah They are expensive $60 - $100 each Make sure the sensor is really the problem before replacing
Year, make, model and engine size would help, but a bad spark plug, spark plug wire or fuel injector are a few possibilities.
Yes, if it is clogged.
Many of the compounds that make your engine oil work better on the INSIDE of the engine are also "poisonous" to your catalytic converter as your engine starts to use oil. The nice thing about catalytic converters, they burn unused hydrocarbons that come out the exhaust. You may not KNOW that your engine is burning oil until the catalytic converter gives out or even gets plugged up. Watch the oil level in the crankcase. If it drops with no evidence of leaking, it's burning and your catalytic converter will die.
Yes it would but that doesn't mean it is the cat
Damaged catalytic converter is one possibility.
Don't know what year, make or model you have but if you continue to drive that vehicle with the service engine flashing it may do serious damage to the catalytic converter(s).
Yes you can but you won't pass an emissions test and depending what year and make vehicle the check engine light will remain on.
